Breath - - A Sensual and Spiritual Journey

The lyrics of "Andetag" combine an earthy sensuality, stark insights into the transitory nature of human life and a timeless spirituality. The images correspond to the Swedish lyrics rather closely, which makes this show best suited for those who understand Swedish. For all others it might be helpful to take in the (makeshift) translation beforehand:

Andetag (Breath):

In the blowing wind feel the squalls of comfort
Cherish every minute, every sparkling moment
Hear yearning and lust in every breath
Sorrow and joy meet every second

Nothing is in vain if you give of yourself
Mercifully and with tenderness in love
Something still lingers on, rushing wind, sunlight,
The shore’s grainy sand, the quiet night

One day you're one of those who've lived in a faded past
One day, maybe a long time yet, you're laid to rest, soul to find peace
Your deed, your word, your faith moves on in your grandchildren's blood
Like the sea cradles each wave in its lap, so life embraces man eternally...

In the blowing wind feel a breeze of eternity
A day will come when you’re not here
The wind carries life’s secret
All that’s said and done finds its place in memory

Like a wind the hours fly by, days become years
Times and humans leave
Like wind, at the last day a light goes out
And a star ignites on the evening sky

Life,
life ist strength, yearning, desire
Life is will, walk your own way
Every time the path divides the choice is yours
Yours is life, it all happens now

Here and now as you take a breath
The stars shine bright and dim
The air is moved by a butterfly’s wing
Your life rests in the wind

One day you're one of those who've lived in a faded past
One day, maybe a long time yet, you're laid to rest, soul to find peace
Your deed, your word, your faith moves on in your grandchildren's blood
Like the sea cradles each wave in its lap, so life embraces man eternally...

"Andetag" is performed by the folk-group Gunnfjauns Kapell from the island of Gotland, backed up by the choir Visby Almänna Sången. Gotland - in the center of the Baltic Sea - is rich in history. The Viking era has left many artifacts, like the pictorial stone depicting the Volund (=Beowulf) saga.
Pictures used in the show are from Denmark, Sweden, Estonia and the Finnish archipelago of Åland.
